I receive variations of this Secure Chat message several times a day as a hospitalist.
Where are they having pain? Have they used any of their available PRNs? Is the pain mild, moderate, or severe? These are all generally important things to include in the initial message.
Messaging “patient would like to talk to you when you are available” is much less helpful than messaging specifically what the patient would like to talk about.
Also, please do not page with one vital sign or send a series of short individual messages (that generate several times as many beeps).
