Burning out on public wrath towards doctors

Just like the title says. I'm a hospitalist. I care about others. I went into medicine to try and make people better. I listen 80% of the time and speak much less than that. But the hatred towards doctors is more and more palpable. Most people don't trust the information I give them. They're angry that I don't know everything, a 'gotcha!' moment that confirms we're all a bunch of uninformed d-heads. Go to a sub-reddit here on just about anything medical - menopause, headaches, back pain, and you will see post after post about how awful we doctors are. And don't even try to defend yourself, because "you take all those kickbacks from big Pharma and push jabs". I was even told not to mention the rate of doctor-suicides because "a lot of people attempt suicide and that doesn't make you special". People can be just terrible. And then there's our lovely Surgeon General who didn't finish residency, and RFJ Jr, and you've got the blind leading the blind out there.

Sigh. I just needed to lay that out there. I'm 48 and mid-career and just wish I could peace out and do something else for a while.
